Since tying the knot in 2010 and starting the band in 2012, Jileane and Nathan of I Am Machi have been striving to create a big rock band sound while still maintaining minimalistic instrumentation. Drums, guitars, various other loud noises, and each other are all these two need. Their live performance is fun and awkward. With Nathan on guitars and Jileane on drums, and both sharing vocal duties, I Am Machi strikes a perfect balance to find beauty in desolate places while delivering their own unique brand of “fawkward” (the term they’ve coined to sum up the fun and awkward live experience). To date they have recorded and released two EPs, Mammal Pants (2012), Slew (2014), and Magnetic North (2016), in addition to sharing the stage with the likes of Joel Plaskett, The Pack A.D., The Wet Secrets, and Iceland’s Sin Fang, and appearing at a selection of festivals including UP+DT. Check out I Am Machi for songs about the valley floors and mountain tops of Alberta in the hopes that others will empathize and find it uplifting, inspiring, or just have one hell of a good time.
