K-Riz is determined to revive the feeling listeners once got from hip-hop. One of the first things many will notice about K-Riz is his ability to balance style and substance. This duality is the reasoning behind his name. Short for Kahrizzma, the moniker was given to him by his cousin Mazlo who said K-Riz’s flow could grab anyone’s attention. With such versatility, K-Riz navigates over beats with a cadence reminiscent of hip-hop’s golden era. The 2014 release of his mixtapes The Low and The Low: Side B caught the attention of the nation’s biggest urban media site – Hip Hop Canada and spawned the fan favourites “Is It Real” and “Paradise” (produced by Canadian Grammy-nominated producer LordQuest). Still building his body of work, K-Riz has opened for Nas, The Game, Ne-Yo and many others. His single “It’s Cold Outside” was featured on Def Jam’s Global Attack Volume 1 Mixtape – an opportunity that introduced him to a new audience globally. In 2009 K-Riz toured BC and Alberta with Politic Live as part of their Hip-Hop For Hunger tour. 2016’s Fresh Air includes throwback elements of ‘90s R&B with the more future-facing electronic production style of contemporary hip-hop. Be sure not to miss his live show where he pulls out all the stops – a total of nine musicians help flesh out the tracks for an adoring audience.
