The Hearts are one of those Edmonton gems you just can’t shake. Their music exudes soul, rife with harmonies and hook driven melodies. After the release of two roots-pop albums (albums names), the group decided to shake things up, dropping their frontman’s name from the masthead and releasing 2015’s Equal Love. The newest nine song collection from Jeff Stuart (vocals/guitar), Gavin Dunn (guitar/vocals), Dwayne Martineau (keys/guitar/vocals), Christopher Quesnel (bass), Michelle Rempel (violin/percussion/vocals), and Brad Tebble (drums) combines retro-pop, folk rock and electronica, ripe with beaming synths and dance-party tunes, while still remaining true to the melancholic slow to mid-tempo, gorgeously layered, pensive lyrics closer to the band’s previous albums.
The Hearts’ music has been featured in HBO and MTV productions, received international critical acclaim and continues to enjoy plenty of nationwide airplay. The Hearts have toured extensively and performed alongside top contemporary acts at internationally renowned festivals and events including SXSW, and we are thrilled to welcome them back to UP+DT.
