U.S. Girls is the moniker of Illinois-born, Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist Meg Remy. Her unabashed art-pop sound is unconventional, with combinations of reel-to-reel players, tape decks, samplers, and occasionally a full band accompanying her vocally-driven exploration of American pop mores. Her music examines feminist themes of abuse and gender inequality, while her ‘everywoman’ lyrics have drawn comparisons to the likes of Bruce Springsteen. U.S. Girls has released music on a diverse group of labels, including Stiltbreeze, Kraak, FatCat, and her own Calico Corp. Be sure not to miss U.S. Girls’ unique brand of modern art-based, American feminism at UP+DT.
